Our Kuukkeli kuksa is available in two variants: a light-colored version and a darker version. The dark kuksa obtains its distinctive shade after being immersed in coffee, giving it a beautiful dark brown color. In contrast, light kuksa retains the natural color of the wood, without any coffee treatment.

During transport, the kuksa has undergone various temperature variations. Before pouring a hot liquid into it, be sure to let the wood return to room temperature. As a precaution, you can run your kuksa under lukewarm (not hot) water before using it.

Yes, if you'd like a kuksa that hasn't been soaked in coffee during the manufacturing process, just ask us - we have some coffee-free models, like the Kuukkeli, for example.

We recommend that you wash your kuksa before using it. To wash it, use lukewarm, not hot, water and a natural, chemical-free soap. Once the cup has been washed, dry it immediately with a cloth. You mustn't leave it to dry on its own, as the wood will soak up all the water.

To keep your kuksa in good condition, with its beautiful color and shine, you need to maintain it with oil (we recommend grapeseed oil) or a protective wax. You can buy grapeseed oil in our store, but we also make our own protective wax.

This kuksa can be used to enjoy hot or cold drinks. The wood will naturally keep your drink cool or warm.

No! None of our wooden products are microwave-safe. Microwave heat will damage the wood and cause it to crack.

This kuksa is handmade in the far north, in Finnish Lapland.

Kuksa were invented by the Sami, an indigenous people living in northern Scandinavia. They were used as personal containers for drinking, eating and even berry-picking. Kuksa are part of Duodji, a Sami craft centered on the creation of functional and useful everyday objects.

It takes around 8 days for a kuksa to be finished. Once the kuksa has been carved, the wood needs to soak for about 5 hours in boiling salted water. If you want a darker-coloured kuksa, soak it in coffee for a few minutes. The wood then needs to dry for a week. Then it is oiled.

We love the culture and style of the Northern countries, the colors and the habit of experiencing nature in a certain way. We first saw the Kuksa for the first time on our first tour to the North Cape and... we still had no idea that they were such a distinctive feature and so profound. It is only natural that when there is "some item" that can be a source of income, there are items that represent it even with inexpensive workmanship, which does not necessarily mean "bad" but only "of reduced value"; after reading several reviews, I decided to rely on Kuksa Shop, both for the attention to detail already from the explanation and for the quality of the workmanship, clearly visible even from the photos. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the leakage from the cup's maintenance oil co ... ntainer (it must have made a small crack during transport), but still enough was left over to protect the cup. My wife was-very excited to receive it! It is "soft" in the sense that it returns a pleasant feel to the touch; it is beautifully detailed, both in terms of the handle (fantastic!) and the actual container. Protecting it and cleaning it with oil and coffee made it usable, and although the characteristic smell lingers to some extent, it is not as annoying as it has been for other buyers (at least from what I have read in reviews). We are truly satisfied with the purchase and. we would really like to compliment the people who make these products!!!

Furthermore, Anne-Laure provided a more than excellent service, from her answer to my first question till the moment she was sure I received my kuksa well (it travelled a long way). Highly recommended!
