Caring for reindeer skins:

All our reindeer skins are air-dried outdoors using traditional Finnish methods. Reindeer skins are very fragile, and it's normal for them to shed a small amount of hair. To clean it, you can gently brush it with a brush or shake it, but that's all!

Here are a few other tips

  • Since our reindeer skins are dried outdoors, they can be used outdoors for sitting in front of a campfire, sledding or decorating your exterior. Over time, the skin will become more and more water-resistant, and will dry faster and faster.
  • To dry a hide, you need to dry it in the open air, away from a radiator, leather side up. Alternatively, you can hang it up to dry.
  • To store your reindeer skin, you mustn't roll it up or put it in a cupboard.
  • If you use your reindeer skin as a rug, it will lose a lot of hair and you'll damage it.
  • Reindeer hide naturally retains heat, so it's advisable to turn it often to prevent the leather from mildewing and the hair from falling out.
  • How do you know if your reindeer hide is damaged? If your reindeer skin has not been stored or dried properly, it will become damaged. Smell is the easiest way to tell whether your reindeer skin is damaged or not. A damaged hide will smell musty and attract insects and flies.

Maintaining a reindeer antler product:

  • To maintain a reindeer antler product, just oil it a little. Reindeer antler won't absorb oil as easily as wood, so use very little oil and a cloth to spread it around.
  • Don't put reindeer antler products in the dishwasher or wash them in hot water. If you must wash it, use lukewarm water and a natural, mild soap.
